On March 7, 2013 the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle’s Vicar General, Fr Brian Mascord, invited representatives of the diocesan community to join a consultative group.
The Diocese’s ‘Committee for Commissions’ aims to assist the diocese in its preparation to engage with the Commonwealth Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse and support the diocese’s ongoing engagement with the NSW Special Commission of Inquiry Concerning the Investigation of Certain Child Sexual Abuse Allegations in the Hunter Region.
The diocese actively supports, and is firmly committed to assisting, the work of both the NSW Special Commission of Inquiry and the National Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
The Group assists the Diocese to better reflect the insights of the local Catholic community and respond effectively. Members of the group also bring perspectives from the groups or regions they represent in our large and diverse Diocese.
The Group supports the work of the Manager of the diocesan child protection unit, Zimmerman Services.
Further information produced or relevant to the Group will be posted on the Commission part of the diocesan website when appropriate: https://officeofsafeguarding.org.au/redress/the-royal-and-special-commissions-information-as-a-historical-record/
